Overview

 

The National Urban League seeks a Manager, Economic and Housing Policy to join our Washington Bureau team. This role will report directly to the Executive Director of the Washington Bureau and cover economic policy issues including housing, entrepreneurship, and financial services matters. This position will assist in developing policy recommendations, conducting research, engaging with key stakeholders, and supporting advocacy initiatives related to financial services, economic development, and housing policy. The Manager, Economic  & Housing Policy will support the National Urban League Washington Bureau’s (NULWB) efforts to advance economic empowerment and housing equity for Black and underserved communities.

Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor, analyze, and report on federal economic and housing policy developments.
  • Support legislative and regulatory advocacy by drafting policy briefs, fact sheets, and public comment letters.
  • Conduct research on issues such as affordable housing, homeownership, fair lending, small business development, and financial inclusion.
  • Engage with policymakers, advocacy organizations, and coalition partners to advance the NULWB’s economic and housing policy agenda.
  • Assist in planning policy events, briefings, and roundtables to educate stakeholders and promote policy solutions.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for advocacy campaigns, task forces, and working groups.
  • Contribute to NULWB’s communications strategy by drafting blog posts and newsletter content.
  • Support the planning and execution of the Annual Legislative Policy Conference, including speaker coordination and materials development.
  • Facilitate communication and strategy alignment among Urban League affiliates, enhancing their capacity to respond to federal policy changes.
  • Represent the Urban League in national coalitions, partnerships, and meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with National Urban League economic and housing programming staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, economics, urban planning, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of experience in policy analysis, legislative affairs, or advocacy, with a focus on economic or housing policy.
  • Capitol Hill or nonprofit experience is a plus.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Capitol Hill and federal legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Experience with not-for-profit organization is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Collaborative style, detailed–oriented and should enjoy working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a self-directed leader and a collaborative team member.
  • 25% of travel required.
